I was 22 years old the first time I saw an H1 Hummer. It was one of those news clips they show at the end of the local nightly news. The TERMINATOR himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger was given the first civilian-owned Humvee with a luxury interior. They called it the Hummer H1. I was hooked. I never understood the super fast sports car thing my friends had, but after that moment, I understood.
The price tag on those trucks were around 100k back then, so I never thought I’d actually own one. In fact, even if I had 100k laying around, I’d never spend that on a truck. Instead, I waited.
I waited 23 years actually.
I was bored one afternoon so I looked up H1 Hummers on CraigsList and found a few that were selling locally. Everything was about 15k over my budget, so I didn’t pay much attention. Then I saw it. A 1995 open-top H1 that had a very abused interior… and it was in my budget.
I contacted the seller immediately and went out for a test drive.
A week later, I drove home with my new rig with lots of upgrades and repairs on my mind.
